“Research Design: If You Ask the Wrong Questions, the Answers Don’t Matter"
Modern assays require careful data processing, because our intuition about what answers ‘should’ look like is poor when we juggle many things at once. If documentation is lacking, analyses must be ‘forensically’ reconstructed.
We discuss several case studies where results affecting therapy incorporated errors that could put patients at risk. The most common errors are simple (e.g., row or column offsets); conversely, in our experience the most simple errors are common.
Attendees will learn:
1. To describe several types of common errors that can (and have) affect(ed) high-throughput analyses.
2. To describe steps that can be taken to avoid these errors.
3. To identify types of data and supporting information to look for in high-throughput publications.
