“Cleaning of Biofilm Infected Dentin: Analysis by Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy”

It is accepted that the root canal system presents several anatomical irregularities that cannot be completely addressed by mechanical methods. This lecture will compare the efficacy of several irrigant solutions to decontaminate biofilms attached to dentin surface or to kill bacteria situated in dentinal tubules. The use of confocal laser scanning microscopy is used to evaluate and present the advantages and limitations of each method.

Attendees will learn:
  1. Understand the limitations of several irrigant solutions on biofilm structure.
  2. Understand the resistance mechanisms of biofilms.
  3. Describe the effect of NaOCl on bacteria inside dentinal tubules and on biofilm structure.
